I will be like the dew to Israel; he shall blossom like the lily; he shall take root like the trees of Lebanon” Hosea 14:5 ESV
I love the word bloom and it's cousin, blossom. They sound so pretty. And they mean flourishing, growing, healthy. I'm all about that. But when you think of a flower blooming or blossoming, are you really thinking about the health? Probably not. At least for me, I am admiring the beauty of it. Spring beings beauty to the forefront because it is on full display all around us. We can't help but take notice.
Did you know that growing in your faith makes you beautiful? When we trust and obey God, we blossom. When we read the Bible and pray, we bloom. And these things help us dig in and get more nourishment from the Living Water, Jesus. In Hosea, God says he will be like the dew and cause us to blossom like the lily and take root like the trees in Lebanon. Have you heard about those? The cedar trees in Lebanon are quite famous because of their beauty and many uses.
I think to myself, "Aahhh to be as beautiful as a lily, as sturdy and beautiful as a Lebanon cedar. And useful to others? Icing on the cake." I want to blossom and take root just like that. And I can. We can. Flowers need three basic necessities to become beautiful. They need soil, water and sun. So how to become beauty in bloom. Read the Word. Know the Word. (Yes, that means memorize it). Do what it says. It's the best beauty formula ever. Follow it and watch your beauty blossom!
