“Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 (NIV)
GPS never steers you wrong. Right? Wrong! My GPS had me off in the middle of nowhere when I was supposed to be at a gated apartment complex. How'd that happen? The street dead ended and then picked up in a totally different area of town. Some of the addresses were duplicated because one part of the street was considered a “private drive” and the other was not. There was no way to tell the GPS this information, especially when I wasn't aware of it when I input my destination. I'm so glad we don't have to worry about mishaps like that when God is guiding us.
Sometimes we have no clue where we are headed or need to be headed. That's why the psalmist said, “Show me the way I should go.” God already knows where we need to be. Why follow our own instincts when God, who knows everything, past, present and future, can lead us in the right direction? God has the map and has charted our path. He's aware of detours, curves and falling rocks along the way. He will never steer us wrong. That makes it easy to trust his direction by surrendering control of our journey to Him.
God has never taken me to a wrong destination. Now, I may not have thought I wanted to be where I was going, but once I arrived, I knew I was in the right place. God, being all-knowing and perfect, is never going to make a mistake in His directions to us. So let's trust Him, listen for His directions and arrive with confidence, knowing our God Positioning System got us there.
